Saying “Bismillah” Before You Start Makes Everything Better

Did you know that saying “Bismillah” (In the name of Allah) before you start anything can bring blessings and success to everything you do? This little phrase is full of meaning and helps us remember that Allah is always with us. It’s like starting everything you do with Allah’s help!
What Does “Bismillah” Mean?
When we say “Bismillah”, we are saying, “I begin in the name of Allah.” This means that we are asking Allah for His help and blessings in whatever we are about to do. Whether it’s something big like studying for a test or something small like eating your lunch, saying “Bismillah” reminds us to rely on Allah.
Why Should We Say “Bismillah”?
1. It Brings Barakah (Blessings):
When we start something with “Bismillah”, Allah puts blessings in it. For example, when you say it before eating, your food becomes more fulfilling and satisfying.
2. It Protects You:
Did you know that saying “Bismillah” keeps shaytan (Satan) away? The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“When a person enters his house and mentions Allah’s name while entering and eating, Shaytan says: ‘There is no place for you to stay and no dinner here.” (Sahih Muslim)
3. It Helps You Stay Mindful of Allah:
Saying “Bismillah” makes us remember Allah before we act. It’s a way of saying, “I’m doing this for Allah and with Allah’s help.”
When Should We Say “Bismillah”?
You can say “Bismillah” before:
• Eating or drinking
• Starting your homework or schoolwork
• Playing with friends
• Getting dressed
• Starting a journey
• Using technology
In fact, you can say it before any good action!
A Story About “Bismillah”
Once, a young boy forgot to say “Bismillah” before eating. His older sister gently reminded him, and he quickly said, “Bismillah!” Afterward, he realized how much better he felt knowing he’d remembered Allah. From then on, he made sure to always start with “Bismillah”!
Fun Challenge for You!
This week, try to say “Bismillah” before every good thing you do. Keep a little journal and write down how it made you feel. Did it make you more focused or thankful? Did you feel closer to Allah?
A Beautiful Du’a (Prayer) to Remember:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this du’a for starting something new:
“In the name of Allah. I put my trust in Allah, and there is no power or might except with Allah.”
Let’s make saying “Bismillah” a part of everything we do. It’s a simple habit that brings us closer to Allah and makes our actions more meaningful.
